
1st Chalki International Composition Competition 2020
Regulations
Due to the current situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, we extended the deadline of submissions to the 1st Chalki International Composition Competition 2020. The new deadline is 30 of June. We will announce the dates of the final round at the end of July.

The 1st Chalki International Composition Competition 2020 is organized under the sponsorship of the Municipality of Chalki Island in Greece.
Composers of any nationality and age are invited to submit a work for solo violin, or violin and electronics.
Each competitor may present one or more works for violin solo or violin and electronics.
The duration of the work should be no less than 3 minutes and no more then 8 minutes.
The composition could be performed at past but never awarded any prizes in another composition competition.
All competitors must send, until 30 June 2020 the following materials to the email address chalkicompetition@gmail.com:
The score in pdf format (and, optionally, a midi or live recording as mp3 file)
A brief biography (not more than one page)
The application form
One photo
The proof of payment of the participation fee
The works (and the recordings) should be anonymous and marked with a 6-digit code.
The jury will select eight works. The eight works will be performed in the final round, which will take place in Chalki Island on 7th of July 2020. The finalists will be informed by email for their selection.

Prizes
Prizes will be awarded to three of the finalists at the end of the concert.
First prize: 500 euros
Second prize: 300 euros
Third prize: 200 euros
Upon the agreement with the Organizing Committee any public organizations, including foundations and/or mass media, may offer additional prizes, awards and/or gifts for the competitors. Decisions on the awarding of any special prizes and/or gifts to the competitors will be taken by the jury of the Competition

On the final round the eight pieces performed by Yannis Kormpetis and Epameinondas Tzivenis. After the concert the jury announced the three winners:

Composition Masterclass
Due to the current situation of the Covid - 19, the Composition Masterclass will be held online 13 -15 July 2020.
The 1st Chalki International Composition Competition invites the Greek composer Lina Tonia to give a masterclass to young composers in Chalki Island.
The award-winning composer Lina Tonia will discuss new scores and share her philosophy of thinking in contemporary music.
