Regulations

Due to the current situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, we extended the deadline of submissions to the 1st Chalki International Composition Competition 2020. The new deadline is 30 of June. We will announce the dates of the final round at the end of July.

The 1st Chalki International Composition Competition 2020 is organized under the sponsorship of the Municipality of Chalki Island in Greece.

Composers of any nationality and age are invited to submit a work for solo violin, or violin and electronics.

Each competitor may present one or more works for violin solo or violin and electronics.

The duration of the work should be no less than 3 minutes and no more then 8 minutes.

The composition could be performed at past but never awarded any prizes in another composition competition.

All competitors must send, until 30 June 2020 the following materials to the email address chalkicompetition@gmail.com:

The score in pdf format (and, optionally, a midi or live recording as mp3 file)
A brief biography (not more than one page)
The application form
One photo
The proof of payment of the participation fee

The works (and the recordings) should be anonymous and marked with a 6-digit code.

The jury will select eight works. The eight works will be performed in the final round, which will take place in Chalki Island on 7th of July 2020. The finalists will be informed by email for their selection.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to three of the finalists at the end of the concert.

First prize: 500 euros

Second prize: 300 euros

Third prize: 200 euros

Upon the agreement with the Organizing Committee any public organizations, including foundations and/or mass media, may offer additional prizes, awards and/or gifts for the competitors. Decisions on the awarding of any special prizes and/or gifts to the competitors will be taken by the jury of the Competition

Vladimiros Symeonidis

Contuctor & Composer

Vladimiros Symeonidis is currently the Music Director of the ‘‘contra tempo’’ chamber orchestra and Assistant Professor of Conducting at the School of Music Studies of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. From 2006 to 2011 Maestro Symeonidis was appointed Principal Conductor of the Greek National Radio Symphony Orchestra (ERT) . He is a frequent guest Conductor with all major Symphony Orchestras in Greece such as the Athens State Symphony Orchestra, Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, Greek National Opera, Athens Megaron Camerata etc.. He has worked together with some important European Orchestras and Choirs such as the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra , ensemble die reihe, ensemble Klangforum Wien, Wiener Sängerknaben, Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, Sofia Philharmonic etc.. He has collaborated with some of the wold’s finest soloists and composers such as Cyprien Katsaris, Cheryl Studer, Olli Kortekangas, Mikis Theodorakis, Simon Saheen, Georges Aperghis, Richard Galliano, Klaus Lienbacher, Theodor Antoniou, Nils Landgren, Martin Haselboeck, Myrto Papatanasiu,etc. Recordings of Maestro Symeonidis have been broadcasted through E.B.U. in many European Countries. His latest recording of works by Greek Composer J.Papaioannou has been released by NAXOS in 2013. Vladimiros Symeonidis has graduated from the prestigious University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna(Magister Artium degree), where he attended(1993-1998) the legendary Conducting Class of Professor Uros Lajovic(Student of Hans Swarovsky). He has studied Composition at the same University(1993-1997) under Professor Erich Urbanner(Magister Artium degree), and Musicology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki(Master's degree).
